I live on lake huron and I’ve heard around this time you can catch whitefish closer to shore. Do you think using a casting bubble and fly would be a decent approach?
Posted on April 23rd, 2015Most of the whitefish that are caught in Lake Huron in the spring when the water is cold are caught off the shorelines and from anglers fishing form small boats fishing near the bottom and using live minnows, jigs like the TriggerX Creatures 4″ Probe worms, and even roe-bags. When mayfly hatches will be happening in the next few weeks and you see whitefish feeding on the surface, you can catch them on flies, but it’s tricky. You have to be close enough to a rising fish to cast immediately to it, otherwise they move on looking for other mayflies that are hatching.
