Hi there, I enjoy your articles and TV shows…The Kawartha Lakes are a good walleye fishery, but they are shallow and very weedy. Aside from confining Kawartha walleye fishing to early season, are there any techniques you recommend during the weedy times…ThxRoss PaynePosted on November 9th, 2019
Hi Ross, there certainly is. We shot a Kawartha Lakes walleye TV show where we “twitching” Rapala Husky Jerk #11 over the weeds that were growing in 7-10’ of water to within 2’ of the surface. Walleye will swim suspended just above those weeks and won’t think twice of coming up and striking the twitch-bait. The other technique is to fish the weedlines with either a ¼ or 3/8 oz black bucktail jig and “snap-jigging” it along the edge and off any weed points or pockets. That technique works well right through the summer months…God bless you.
