Hi Italo,I’ve enjoyed reading your newsletters over the years. I have been planning to take my 8 and 9 year old kids to Florida for some fishing in the near future, and your recent post caught my eye. Just what I’m looking for-a cottage with a boat, with a variety of hungry fish for the kids to catch. Could you make some suggestions? I’ve been out on the Key West flats a few times, but they aren’t ready for that(yet).ThanksPeter
Posted on May 5th, 2015If you are planning on coming down over the next while, I would suggest you consider the Englewood/Manasota Key area on Florida’s south-west coast. There should be lot’s of accommodations you can book at a reasonable price since this is not peak-season. In the past we have rented accommodations on Manasota Key, just a 200′ walk to the beach, about 2 miles from the Englewood fishing pier (inter-coastal), and about 4 miles from the Placida Marina, 1990 Placida Rd., Englewood where you can get bait and rent various size boats to fish the inter coastal, or to go our in the Gulf. There is also a “party-fishing-charter” called Captain Jack’s just 2 miles away. If you Google Manasota Key rentals you will see that you can find accommodations as low as $90/night. If you book a location, just let me know and I can give you the most current fishing info. on what you can catch with the kids either fishing in the inter-coastal or the near-shore man-made reefs.
