Hi Italo,If I rent a boat on lake couchiching where are good places for bass and pike and what lures and baits should I use? Also what are good areas and lures/baits for perch and are they safe to eat out of lake couchiching? Thanks
Posted on August 20th, 2015You can virtually catch large and smallmouth bass fishing any of the “pencil-reed” (bullrush), that grows in water less than 5′ anywhere on Lake Couchiching. Good areas to fish for pike are around Atherley Narrows on the north-east side from Concession Rd.12 north up to Fern Resort Rd. You can fish 1/4 oz spinnerbaits inbetween the reeds, or fish a 1/4 oz. jighead with a 3″ twister-tail grub. A good open-water area to catch bass is off the south-west tip of Chief’s Island. You will see that the weedbeds there look dark with light patches (sand bottom). You can cast shallow running crankbaits there or fish the 1/4 oz jig/twister-tail grub.
A good area to fish for perch is on the south side of Heron Island between the channel marker and the island in water anywhere from 20-5′ depth. Live minnows fished on a hook/split-shot sinker or a pickerel rig works well as well as fishing a 1/8 oz. jighead with a 1-3″ plastic grub along the bottom.
