Hi ItaloI hope that all is well with you and your family.I would like to attempt to catch a salmon and/or rainbow trout launching my boat out of Port Hope. Is it possible this late in the year?.Posted on September 21st, 2017
Hi Norman, definitely! There are staging salmon still off the pier just off the mouth of the Ganaraska River. As you probably know the piers are closed due to repairs and anglers have not been able to fish them from either pier. If you are in a boat you can flat-line troll with lures like the Rapala J13 in fluorescent orange or chartreuse, KwikFish, and bright spoons during the day. Chinook salmon also hit glow-in-the-dark spoons after nightfall either trolled or cast from a boat there. For the steelhead you can flat-line 3/8 oz. spoons with a long-line around the mouth . As our weather changes and water temps drop there will be more trout moving in closer to the mouth.
