Hi Italo,I hope all is well. I have started fishing in the Niagara region. I am fishing Lake Ontario for salmon and trout around St. Catharines. I wanted to explore pickerel and pike fishing. Do you have any suggestions for the Niagara river, lower or upper (Canadian side) for pike or pickerel? Thanks

Your best bet for Walleye is trolling Lake Erie’s with either Dipsey Divers, Jet Divers or bottom-bouncing sinkers with worm harnesses from 40-70′ depths. You can catch Walleye in the Lower and Upper Niagara but you have to work hard for them. Most anglers in the river will use jigs on the bottom for them.

Pike fishing can be good in the Welland River (Chippewa Creek), in the marina basins in the Upper Niagara and at Jordan Harbour. Port Colborne, ON in Lake Erie is also good for Pike in the spring before all the weeds fill in…God bless you.
