Hi Italo What is the best way to go after suspended smallies in the summer. I am consistently marking fish at 15 to 20 feet in 30 to 35 feet of water but catching them is proving to be a challenge. Many thanks.
Posted on July 2nd, 2012Hi Steve…I am curious, when you are marking the suspended fish, are you also marking “balls” of baitfish close to them. I you are not, I am suspect that they mey not be smallmouth bass, but other species of fish. Smallmouth bass normally suspend when they feed on suspended school of baitfish. Other than that, they either cruise the shorelines, or feed right on the bottom. If they are smallmouth, try “swimming” a 3-4″ tube/1/8 oz. jighead through them, or twitching a Rapala X-Rap #10. Again, if they are smallmouth bass at that depth, they will move 10′ upwards to strike a “twitch-bait”…God bless you, Italo
