Hi Italo: Me and my fishing buddies were looking to get out somewhere other than Rice Lake, Simcoe, etc and the other usual spots within a couple hours of Toronto. Where were you recommend we head, around the 4 hour range, for some high quality largemouth/smallmouth bass fishing?
Posted on March 27th, 2015Hi Alexander….I would recommend you fish Big Bay on the Bay of Quinte. The fishing is excellent there for walleye, bass, pike, longnose gar and many large panfish. It is very easy to catch fish there if you cast crankbaits along the weedbeds and weedlines that you can visually see coming to the surface. The number one crankbait to fish there is a Rapala Tail Dancer #9 in the hot-chub color, or “the bleeding-lip” series hot-chub color. The most productive weeds are those that are growing in open-water. If you don\’t have a boat, you can call Baycrest Marina ( 613-476-5357), on Big Island, they have cottage accommodations a boat launch and boat rentals. And as soon as you get out of their marina-basin you can start fishing the weedlines….God bless you, Italo
