Hi Italo – I’m visiting the pacific coast of Costa Rica (Dulce Gulf) in early June. I’ve got a day of offshore fishing, but I also want to try shore fishing around the resort. I’m packing a four-piece med (almost med-heavy) spinning rod. Got to pack light, so can you suggest a few basic lures, plus the best line and terminal tackle? Gracias!
Posted on April 27th, 2015Your trip sounds like a good opportunity for you to get the Rapala 4-piece Baja saltwater travel rod. I have fished these in different parts of the world and they work great with a large spinning reel loaded with a minimum of 30 lb. Sufix 832 braid. You have good chances of hooking good size jacks, possibly rooster fish & mackerel. Definitely take a couple of Rapala X-Rap #10 or #12, a couple of Rapala Skitter Walk (which you fish fast on the surface), and some jigs/plastic grubs in different sizes and colors.
