Hi Italo, I live in Kitchener and was thinking about steelhead fishing somewhere close as possible. Do you know of any good creek around Burlington perhaps even Oakville that receives some big fish from Lake Ontario? I have been catching inland browns around Fergus but sure would be nice to go for big rainbows from the great lakes somewhere. I don’t like driving very far though. Thank you ItaloPosted on August 4th, 2017
Hi Angler, the closest Lake Ontario tribs for you would be Bronte & Sixteeen Mile Creek and the Credit River. The first two are smaller, less flow and fish can be scattered over a large stretch. The Credit has more volume and gets a bigger run of salmon & trout, but it can get crowded. I would suggest hitting Bronte Creek south of the QEW after any big rains at the end of this month. The Chinooks and migratory Browns will already start to run than and it will be easier getting them to take when they are fresh-run in the lower section. By the middle to end of Oct. the Credit River in Erindale Park should be good for steelhead.
