Posted on March 27th, 2015Hi Andrew….This year the walleye will still be in the rivers at night finishing their spawning when the season opens. The easiest way for you to catch walleye is to fish the Salmon River in Shannonville, ON (just east of Belleville, ON off of Hwy#2. You can fish right from the boat launch area that is just below the Shannonville Dam. Best presentation is to cast and retrieve either a Rapala Husky Jerk #11, or a Jointed #9 Rapala. The water is only 3-5′ deep there so you don’t need to add weight. The best time is just at dusk and for the first 1-2 hrs. after dark. If you want to catch walleye during the day, one of the best areas to fish is at the top of Hayward Longreach which is just south of Forester Island, Deseronto, ON. The Bay becomes deeper there and there is a 20-30′ channel right where the red channel marker is in the middle of the Bay. You slow-trol from that marker south to the area in front of the large red barn that is on the west hilside (can’t miss it). Best presentation there is slow-trolling (1-2 mph) with a bottom-walking sinker and worm harness/worm….God bless you, Italo
