Hi Italo. I have recently heard that the town of port hope is actively and seriously looking into ways to stop the illegal fishing practices during the salmon run. As we all know its been getting worse year after year, and education and enforcement doesn’t seem to work. Any thoughts or suggestions from a professional anglers point of view?
Posted on September 18th, 2015When certain fish species become vulnerable due to the constricted waters they accumulate in especially around spawning activity the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry have created “sanctuaries” that protect the fish until they can disperse over a larger area. Perhaps this is one option that the City of Port Hope and the MNRF will be exploring. We all know that many Chinooks, salmon and steelhead accumulate at the “steps” right below the Hwy.#2 bridge in town. We’ll have to see if the problem becomes big enough for them to implement it.
