Hi Italo, I have a question about fall salmon. I would like to purposely get a salmon on the fly this fall. I have had Chinooks strike my streamers when im chasing fall browns but I want to know if there is any productive streams or rivers other than the credit river i could chase some salmon at? I hear the salmon are starting to stage up so i was wondering if there is anywhere near the gta i could get some salmon whether it be coho’s Chinooks or atlantics. Thanks,God bless.Posted on August 7th, 2016
Hi Ashton, it’s tough to get a salmon on a fly in the GTA tributaries. You are much better off fishing the lower section of the Ganaraska River, Port Hope when the Chinooks and Cohos start moving in just below the Hwy.#2 bridge. Best time to fish them there is after the heavy rains we usually get near the end of Aug. to mid-Sept.
I have only hooked Lake Ontario Atlantics incidently fly fishing for fall browns and steelhead. My largest came out of the Oak Orchard River in Upper NY state. You may have a tough time hooking one in the Ontario tributaries since they are a minority salmon species in Lake Ontario.
