Hi Italo, Hope you are doing well. A few of our friends families with kids are planning to go for family fishing on June June 30th Family fishing week and would like to have your suggestion for location around GTA in about an hr drive. Where can we go with families and what can we expect ? If you can give me a couple of locations would be helpful. Thanks Italo!

Hi Habib, I would encourage you to travel to Welland, ON and fish the Recreational Canal right in the city of Welland. It’s over 11 km long, 300 yds wide, 30′ deep down the center and has weedlines growing out from both shorelines to about the 14′ depth. There are many stretches of maintained grass with picnic tables and barbecue pits. There are also kayak and canoe rentals which is great for adults and kids. The fishing is excellent for panfish and gamefish (depending whether kids use a bobber & worm, or you cast lures for bigger fish).

I really don’t know of any other such a long stretch of fish-able, public access water that have well maintained shorelines and amenities….ideal for family get-togethers and good fishing.

The other locations are provincial parks like Sutton Provincial Park on Lake Simcoe, ON and Darlington Provinial Park, Oshawa, ON. Both are very nice, but they will probably be crowded and fishing is limited.
