Hi Italo hope you are doing fine. I like all your fishing shows and your fishing technics.I find them very helpful. You are a great fisherman. I was wondering that if there isare any good spots at Whirlpool in Niagara Falls Canada for walleye fishing I have been fishing salmon there but would like to try fishing for walleye. Thanks
Posted on September 8th, 2014Hi Arash…Thank you for your kind words. I have not caught a walleye in the Whirlpool, but I know of anglers that have. The have been “incidental”, caught every once and a while, no real pattern to catching them. We have also caught one walleye drifting for steelhead between the Whirlpool and the Devil’s Hole at a stretch of water called the “Glen”. It was also incidental caught in January fishing a 4 1/2″ plastic Finesse Minnow while float drifting. The highest percentage stretch to catch walleye from shore is either at the Queenston “back-drift”, right at the Queenston, ON Boat Launch, at night, or at Port Dalhousie, ON. The best presentation is casting a deep-diving crankbait that goes down to 15′, but you have to be extremely carefull as you crank it close to shore so you don’t get stuck on the rocks. Boat fishing for them is much easier at both locations, “control-drifting” with the current so that your line is as vertical as possible using a bottom bouncing sinker (looks like an “L”, upside down), with a short lead (about 12-18″ and either an Original Rapala in size #11 or #7 fished along the bottom. Again, best time is just after dark….God bless you, Italo
