Hi Italo, hope all is well. I have a vacation planned in mid june to go to Vancouver. I would really like to go fishing while im there. If you have any information on what I can fish for, where I can fish and any tips on tackle would be a bunch of help. I believe there are a few rivers close to Vancouver id like to try. i.e. capilano river and the vedder. anything would help. Thanks, Ryan
Posted on May 13th, 2015You have several options. If you just want to “fun-fish” you can fish right off the shore in Vancouver casting jigs & spoons. If you fish anywhere around kelp beds you will most likely hook a variety of rock cod, black sea bass, kelp greenling and smaller ling cod (up to 10 lb.). You can take the ferry across and book a salmon charter out of Pedder Bay Marina, or you can fish for sturgeon in the Frazer River (runs right through Vancouver). The Capilano and Vedder have very specific times for their salmon/steelhead runs. If one of those is of interest to you, you may want to contact a local tackle shop in Vancouver and get the most recent fishing update. Regarding tackle, medium-action spinning or baitcasting gear will be fine for the shore-fishing. If you go on a salmon charter or hire a guide for sturgeon they will supply the gear. If you plan on fishing river salmon in the Frazer, Veder or Capilano, the medium action gear should also work fine using spoons, jigs, Vibrax spinners and wobbling lures like the Luhr Jensen Hot Shot. Make sure to check the saltwter & freshwater regulations before heading out. Have a great trip…God bless you, Italo
