Hi Italo, do you have any experience with Len Thompson spoons for trout? What sizes and colors are good?Posted on April 26th, 2018
Hi Dako, I have used most of the casting spoons on the market at one time or another for trout in rivers and lakes. Size of lure depends on the size of trout you are targeting and the size of the baitfish they are feeding on. Small trout, 1/8 or 1/4 oz spoons. Large trout 1/4 to 1 oz spoons. The most common size spoon for medium size trout is a 1/4 or 3/8 oz. Color will depend on water clarity/light penetration into water (depth important). Natural colors like silver and gold will work well in clear water and good light intensity. Bright unnatural colors like chartreuse, yellow/red (5 of diamonds), and high contrast like red and white will work well in more turbid water or in low light. The depth you will fish the spoons will be critical to intercept fish both in rivers and lakes and the thickness of the spoon and amount of wobble is also important.
