Hey there hope all is well. Im thinking of taking a buddy river fishing this weekend somewhere in durham or york region and just wondering where u think the best spot would be and whats the best presentation to use.
Posted on October 26th, 2016Hi Josh, my choice would be Durham Region. You have lot’s of choices there from fishing tributaries from Pickering to Newcastle, ON for migratory browns, steelhead and salmon.
There will be dark salmon in all of them in the upper stretches where it’s open to fishing with some browns and steelhead. If you want to catch fresh-run steelhead and fresher run browns, you are better off fishing the lower stretches, just up from Lake Ontario. There you can drift roe bags under a float, or cast lures like a Vibrax #2 or #3, 1/2 & 3/8 oz. casting spoons, Jointed #11 Rapala (in fluorescent colors), and Luhr Jensen Kwikfish. One of my first choices would be the lower end of Bowmanville Creek from the last bridge (parking lot), down to the harbor.
