Hello ItaloI hope all is well I live in Niagara Falls On. My question to you is how to locate crappie and perch as well as other bream and the best time of year to catch them. I have to fish from shore as I do not have a boat.

Hi John, you can catch panfish like Crappie, Perch, Bluegill and Pumpkinseed both in the open-water season and winter (if the ice is safe), fishing in 4-7′ water around weeds. In the summertime you can fish just a piece of worm on a hook under a sensitive float suspending the bait just off the bottom. In the winter using small tear-drop jigs in the 1/16-1/8 oz tipped with either a small piece of worm, 2-3 live maggots or a wax worm will work well in the same areas.

Good locations to catch them are:

-Welland Recreational Canal right in Welland, ON

-Gibson Lake system east of Hwy.406 where there are small expansions (large ponds).

-Marlin Marina, Port Colborne fishing inside the rock break-wall where the dock systems are.

These can be fished from shore in the open-water and good through the ice once its safe.
