Hello Italo! I want to target staging steelhead and salmon this summer/fall at the mouth of some Georgian Bay tribs. I’ve seen people casting spoons, plugs, and some spinners in the past. My question is what type of rod/reel setup should I use and what are some good lures to toss? I only have a 13′ float rod and a 7’6″ medium “beater” rod. I expect that something around 10′ medium-heavy would be suitable with a larger sized spinning reel? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi Alex, you can use your 7’6″ medium action spinning outfit with 20 lb test braid and a fluorocarbon leader. The braid will give you valuable casting distance to cover more water and will allow you to cover the water column for effectively then using monofilament. Rapala makes a series of west coast rods specifically for casting lures for salmon & trout.  A medium to medium-heavy 9 1/2 – 11′ steelhead/salmon spinning rod would be idea. I would encourage you to also check-out, http://www.fish-united.com/products/Rapala-North-Coast-Salmon-%26-Steelhead-Spinning-Rods.html . To see prices and availability.
