Heading to Florida soon, wondering what lures I can bring for some shore fishing on the inland coastal waterways. Hopefully for some snook etc. St Petes Beach area. Thanks.Posted on January 16th, 2018
Hi Ed, I suggest you take a variety of “flats” lures you can cast by wading the shallow sand flats and some lures you can cast in the passes where the Inter-coastal Water Way goes into the Gulf. Good flats lures for Redfish, Spotted Sea Troutt and Snook are; 1/4 oz. jighead rigged with 3″ paddle-tail swim baits like the Lunker City Shaker, a couple of topwater lures like a Rapala Skitter Pop and Skitter Walk, especially in silver or chrome color and some 1/4 oz. casting spoons.
For fishing the passes you can cast the same casting spoons and especially a Gotcha’ lure in the 3/4 oz. size (silver in color). You can purchase these in any Florida Wal-Mart. You cast the Gotcha’ as far as you can and retrieve it very fast using a jigging stroke as you reel it just below the surface…works great for Bluefish and Spanish Mackerel off the beach and in the passes. Hope you have a great trip….God bless you.
