Good morning Italo I fish the upper Grand River between Dunniville and Cayuaga The water is 82 degs and murky. what should i be using for walleye this time of the year Nothing seems to be working well or Im presenting my bait properly. Looki forward to hearing from you. PS Where can I a replacement for my 10 year old Canadian Sportfishing ball cap I keep getting told by my wife to get rid of it and get a new one. Hi David…Don’t get rid of that hat…it’s like a good wine…it get’s better with age (and experience)! I really enjoy river walleye fishing and find it challenging, especially when walleye move around and you have to figure out where they are. If you fish that stretch of the Grand, I am sure you have done well for them in the past. I don’t know if you are a troller, drifter, or caster, but what I am suggesting is that maybe it’s not your presentation, but location. Even though most lower Grand River anglers troll for their walleye, I find it much more efficient to drift-fish under power of an electric trolling motor and carefully work structure breaks in 7-12′ of water with either jigs/plastic grubs, crankbaits, or a spinner and worm combination. Even though walleye can cruise anywhere in a river, they definitely get attracted to current/structure breaks. If you have a sonar on your boat I suggest you fish very specific structure breaks. These can be man-made (like bridge abutments, the base of dams, or natural shoreline & the edges of deeper pools/runs. Two of the keys are to fish close to bottom and to fish right on the break where the water changes depth quickly within a matter of 5-10′ distance. Some of the top lures to fish there are; Rapala Dives To Thug and Dives To 7 Flat (running depth and action of these two specific crankbaits is very important), the Blue Fox Vibrax #2 or #3 spinner, and a variety of “action-tail” soft-plastics like the TriggerX Paddle Tail Minnow in the 3.5 or 4.5″ length fished on a 1/4 or 3/8 oz. jighead. I would encourage you to try the above tips and I believe you will catch walleye!…..God bless you, Italo
