Does a jig size make any difference when it comes to action and effectiveness of a plastic grub? Thank you!
Posted on November 2nd, 2016Hi Angler, can make all the difference the world. A soft-plastic grub should always be matched with the right size and configuration jighead for the conditions you are planning on fishing. For example if you target panfish and you plan on using a 1″ curly-tail or tube, the jighead should be anywhere form 1/16-1/8 oz. in size.
On the other hand if you plan on fishing a 4″+ swimbait like a Lunker City Shaker or SwimFish, you need to use at least a 3/8 oz. jighead to get a faster drop/retrieve so that the swimming tail engages. The type of jighead you use is also important. For general purposes a round jighead works well. For a tube, a tube jighead should be used, if you let your jig sit on the bottom in-between jigs, a stand-up jighed will work best, and so on….God bless you.
