Lake Ontario tributary Steelhead are quickly making their way back down to the lake after spawning for the last couple of months. Most tributaries have clear, low water and “drop-backs” are limited to holding in deeper pools and runs.
Our good friend Michael Kumar has been taking his daughter Bella out to a couple of the GTA area tributary doing some hiking and scouting to locate larger pools that are still holding some fish. Most of these pools are a distance away from easy access areas.
Michael has been fishing salmon roe bags under a sensitive float and keeping his distance as he approaches deeper pools. He reports that if there are fish in a pool he usually hooks-up right away but them it’s tough to get other fish to strike. Steelhead are sparse with a good pool holding 3-7 fish, others, no fish. Michael also tried fishing Luhr Jensen Kwikfish and has had some follows, but no takes.
