Many anglers target steelhead & brown trout at Port Dalhousie in the fall when they are drawn to the currents to spawn and through the winter months when they are there to feed.
Spring time is also a good time to target both steelhead and browns just below the dam, casting off the pier and also trolling just off the harbor. Trolling anglers either use 1/4 to 1/2 oz. spoons or Rapala body-baits, while the anglers fishing the fast water from a boat use the same rig as the shore-anglers, a 3-way rig with either roe bags, single salmon egg imitation, streamers, live minnows or plastic minnows. The key is to time your fishing there when the water color is slightly turbid and it’s not too windy.
