On our recent trip on the Gulf of Mexico with Helgie Eymundson and Jeff from Wild TV where we are airing our Canadian Sportfishing & Lumberjacks TV series. while we were targeting red grouper in seventy to eighty feet of water about 20 miles off-shore we also caught a few “non-target” species.
Helgie landed his first porgy which is excellent sport and eating. These fish are usually schooling along with grouper and snapper in deeper water.
I ended up hooking a remora which normally attaches itself to the belly of rays and larger fish like sharks. This one was obviously free-swimming in the water column and spotted my bait!
