Pike’s Landing Restaurant, Morven, Georgia get’s my vote for best fresh-fish restaurant in America!!

[nggallery id=672]My wife Barbara, our pup Mulligan & I decided to drive to Florida a few days ago.  On the way down we stopped near Valdosta, Georgia and discovered an excellent fresh-fish restaurant called Pike’s Landing.  In addition to enjoying fresh caught fish, we met some of the friendliest people on earth…in Morven, Georgia.  What makes this restaurant different and better than any fish restaurant I have ever dined at is that Dan McLeod,  who owns and operates the restaurant along with his wife Jackie catches all the fish that is served in the restaurant and he also cooks the fish!  This is no average fish-restaurant.  Dan catches mullet, catfish, redhorse sucker, jacks and many more fish, mostly at night, he cleans them, sells them fresh and also serves them in the restaurant.  Dan also makes his own fishing boats and the nest that he uses…talk about a talented and energetic man!

The fish are served southern-style, deep-fried in a special coating that Dan mixes along with grits, hush-puppies, fries and coleslaw.  My wife and I enjoyed the fried calamari, grilled shrimp and their #1 fish, and my favorite, deep-fried mullet.  Our meal was excellent.

Besides meeting and spending time with Jackie and Dan, we also met and got to know their oldest daughter Emma, and the entire serving team of, from left to right, Sarah Miller, Jordan McNabb, Bonnie Rivers, Tiffany Prevott, and Emma.

If you are traveling through Georgia on your way to Florida it’s well worth the detour to stop in and have a dinner at Pike’s Landing.  If you do, you will meet some of eh friendliest people in the US and enjoy an unforgettable fresh fish dinner.
