Peculiar Gulf of Mexico catch.

Posted on April 19th, 2016

Just the other day I had the pleasure of fishing with Bill McFarlane out on the Gulf of Mexico off of southwest Florida. We were having fun catching a variety of snapper and grouper when we hooked this surprise.

It ended up being a 3′ Remora. Remora’s usually hitch rides on the belly of sharks and rays, but this one was free-swimming in the Gulf and grabs a hook baited with squid in about 70′ of water. Even though they are long and slinky, they give up a good fight and they look very unique!
