Panfish on small jigs & light line.

Posted on January 20th, 2016

If you are planning on fishing some of the smaller reservoirs especially in the many conservation area lakes in southern Ontario to target larger panfish like pumpkinseed, bluegill, crappie and perch, you will do well really down-sizing your gear.

An ultralight rod loaded with 6 lb. test and a 4 lb leader will work best fished with a tiny, tungsten jighead in the 1/32 oz. size and either tipped with a tiny piece of dew worm, a couple of maggots or a waxworm. The panfish may be suspended or they may be near the bottom. Best depth to locate is 4-10′ deep near weeds.
