I really like it when I see anglers keep panfish for eating over prized gamefish like walleye, bass and even pike. I personally love to eat fried panfish. Probably comes from by early years fishing from shore and keeping mostly panfish to take home.
Ed Dolstra is fortunate because he lives very close to the Kawartha Lakes, ON and has to only go a few minutes to get to his boat and hit the water to catch these tasty fish. Among panfish, jumbo perch have wide “shoulders”, quite a bit of meat for their size and less bones-to-flesh ratio than bluegill, rock bass or pumpkinseed. They are fun to catch and great eating. All you need to do is locate them. Ed fishes weed-edges in 7-10′ of water either using worms or small jigs/plastic grubs to catch his fish.
