Ron reports. The area received some showers through last night, not likely enough to raise flows much for the Western NY Niagara Frontier tributaries. Forecast is for cooler weather now and more showers thru Sat with the chance for steadier rain. Flows remain real nice in the Oak Orchard at mod – med and some color to the water. There have been some typical fall fluctuations for hydro operations. Any significant precipitation could raise tributary flows. The other area smaller tributaries have generally low and clear flows. Salmon are spread thru the Oak Orchard, good – strong concentrations of fish upstream. The “run’ may only be something like half way, still not a major spawning push, just a few fish so far on redds. Fish are still in downstream slower, slack water areas and passing thru lower river and rivermouth areas too. Browns and steelhead are present, they are mostly shadowing the salmon and there is plenty of flow and color to the water to hide those fish. Look for salmon action well into Nov and good trout action more or less just getting underway now.
