NY Smallmouth bass action on Lunker City Grubster.
Posted on May 17th, 2016Many of the American Outdoor Writers staying in Lewiston, NY took advantage of the excellent smallmouth bass fishing in the Lower Niagara River.
While most anglers either dragged tube-jigs along the bottom, or minnow-grubs, our boat experimented with the Lunker City Grubster. The 2.75″ size grub looks just like a small goby and the small paddle tail has a “flickering” action no matter if it’s dropping, being pulled along the bottom, or reeled in. We fished it on medium-action Rapala R-Type & Rapala Concept Ti spinning outfits loaded with 20 lb. Sufix832 braid and Sufix Fluorocarbon leaders.
It’s a tantalizing action that smallmouth can’t resist. We ended up landing more bass on the Grubster than on tubes. If you enjoy fishing plastic grubs for a variety of fish, you should give the Lunker City Grubster a try!
