Northern BC tributaries are producing hot fishing action!

Posted on May 27th, 2015

Noel Gyger reports. Weather mostly sunny and chance of showers with highs to +26 degrees Celsius. Hot weather is causing just about all the rivers to go out of shape. Skeena River is very high and dirty and won’t befishable by the weekend. Go west; we think you will find better conditions. Tip: try fishing the clean water of the Skeena tribs such as the Kasiks, Extew and Exchamsiks where they join up with the Skeena, theory is the Chinook come into this water to clean their gills. Reg: you can only fish for Chinook below the Highway 16 bridges. Kalum River is very high but still fishable in  both lower and upper ends. The Steelheading is fantastic! To me, this is the BEST time to fish this river. Go get em! Chinook are in the river and you have a chance to catch both Steelhead and Chinook on the same day. WOW it doesn’t get any better than that! Guiding started on April 1st.  Zymoetz (Copper) River is very high and dirty.  Kitimat River has been fishing well for Steelhead and Trout but the river is coming up and getting dirty. I have a report there is a good number of Steelhead are in the river this year. Ocean fishing for Salmon, Halibut, Prawn and Crab is still good out of the ports of Kitimat and Prince Rupert.
