Niagara River, ON fishing update.

Posted on July 14th, 2022

Our good friend John Grdosic has a chance to fish with his son on the Lower Niagara River for Smallmouth Bass and Gar Pike.

This time of the year the Niagara River is an awesome Bass and Walleye fishery. Most anglers fish the current breaks in 15-30′ of water either drifting with live minnows or jigging along the bottom with tube-jigs and minnow imitating plastic grubs.

Niagara River Smallmouth Bass constantly swim in the fast current, they hit well and are beautifully coloured.

Niagara Smallies take artificials well, fight hard in the current and are beautifully marked.

One of the many surprise fish you can hook in the Lower Niagara River is the prehistoric looking Longnose Gar.

On this trip they also found some surface Gar Pike that they could cast lures to. Summer is a great time to enjoy this great fishery right in southern Ontario.
