Gerald Fisher reports. Here is a photo of my 30+lb striped bass, taken at Newburyport Massachussetts, USA on June 15th. This beauty was taken by drifting a live mackeral in 8 feet of water, in front of a sunken sandbar, right in front of the mouth of the Merrimack River on an outgoing tide. This fish was so big, I could barely lift him up! I was fishing with Captain Paul Murray of Obsessed Charters ( http://www.obessedcharters.com/ ) for the 8th year in a row.
This trip resulted in lots of big stripers including half a dozen over 30 inches and many more schoolies. In addition to the fast fishing, the trip was enhanced by sighting dolphins, grey seals and Atlantic sturgeon right in the harbor… all hard evidence of the success of recent efforts to improve and protect shoreline water quality.
I will be returning to fish with Captain Murray for Bluefish later in July.
