New Zealand – Covid-19 Total Lockdown.

Posted on April 25th, 2020

New Zealand has gone into ‘Level 4 Alert – Total Lockdown’ with severe restrictions on movement, assembly and business, with only central services opening their doors. Grant Dixon, Angling International‘s correspondent in the region, says that his country has not only closed its borders, but its coastline, lakes and rivers to anglers. “The vast majority of anglers have respected this for the greater good of the community and country, with the police now empowered to act accordingly to help break the COVID-19 chain,” he said. “A week into the lockdown and the beaches and boat ramps are deserted and all outdoor activities are on hold. At the time of writing there has been just one NZ death attributed to the pandemic with several people hospitalised in critical condition.” He added that to ensure the nation’s anglers and those in the industry at least get some ‘fishing fix’, its biggest recreational fishing magazine, New Zealand Fishing News, has just made the digital version of its April edition free to anyone who wants to download it.
