As we head into the holiday season and the end of another year, it’s great to reflect on some of the great memories from the past year.  In July I had a chance to experience a wonderful fishing trip to Eagle Lake Island Lodge up in Northern Ontario.  http://www.eaglelakeislandlodge.com/   All five members of the Deba Family made the trek to visit Mark Randle and his crew for a week.  Even though the Lodge has several brand new cabins, we chose to stay in one of the older, more rustic cabins while experiencing the tremendous hospitality of Mark and his crew.  We were also lucky enough to be guided on a few occasions by Martin, who took us out to all his “hot spots”, while Roberta relaxed on our own dock with the dogs and a few good books.

Each day we woke to sunshine and caught plenty of Walleye and Pike to keep all of us happy throughout the week.  At the end of the week we were treated to a shore lunch that we will never forget.  Not only did we eat some of our week’s catch, we also got to snack on some of the local crayfish, caught and prepared by Mitchell, Eric and Brock and cooked by Martin.

We certainly hope to get back there again in 2011 but this time it’s more likely that we will fly into Thunder Bay or Winnipeg.  That would mean less time in the truck and more time on the water.  We also look forward to seeing the brand new main lodge that Mark and crew spent countless hours building during this past year.  For a Northern Ontario fishing experience of a lifetime, treat yourself to Eagle Lake Island Lodge.  It’s going to be a busy summer, so don’t delay in making your reservation.
