MD Marine Insurance Fish with Italo Contest outing.
Posted on July 24th, 2016As many of you know, MD Marine Insurance ran a contest to fish with me on beautiful Sparrow Lake from Bayview Wildwood Resort, ON. Jack Robinson who is an avid anglers was the winner and we enjoyed an excellent day on the water. Conditions were not the best since there was a drop in temperature of about 20-degrees which means a cold-front went through but that did not stop us from catching lot’s of fish.
We started off fishing 12′ weedlines and targetting walleye. All of the walleye we caught were “eating-size” ranging from 14-16″ in length. They were all caught using the Lunker City Shaker fished on a 1/4 oz. jighead.
I had a big surprise when a trophy pike hit the Shaker and I was only using a 12 lb. test Sufix Fluorocarbon leader. The fish fought hard and I was able to land & release it safely.
After the walleye fishing we decided to target smallmouth bass on open-water humps fishing the new Rapala Shadow Rap Shad. In less than 10-min we had the first smallmouth on.
After the smallmouth bass fishing we headed shallower to fish structure/weeds off shorelines and target largemouth bass.
We found both largemouth and pike in the same areas and they loved the Rapala Shadow Rap Shad. We fished the Rapala R-Type outfits loaded with Sufix832 line which worked great for all-round fishing.
