We had an amazing time shooting a TV show for our upcoming Canadian Sportfishing TV series again at www.mashkinonjelodge.com , ON.
Regan and Goldie Thompson co-owners did everything they could for us to have one wonderful TV shoot. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon and after unpacking only had time to fish a couple of hours near the lodge. Regan had told me he was catching up to 30-50 walleye a day with many of them being Nipissing “keepers”, right near the lodge. So, we decided to head our and do a little “slow-death” hook trolling with 3 oz. bottom walking sinkers in 20-25′ of water. In no time at all we caught and released the walleye we needed to make a nice mixed fish TV show.
Sunday we started off catching largemouth bass& smallmouth bass on topwater lures. I had a surprise when I hooked a nice smallie around 19″ on an X-Rap Pop and to my surprise it jumped off half-way through the fight. It ended up that it removed the from treble split-ring right off the lure…very talented smallmouth!
That afternoon and the next day we targeted big smallmouth in 1-3′ of water around the endless number of rocky island in the west arm of Lake Nipissing. Top producing presentations were the RipStop and Lunker City Swimmin’ Ribster swimbait. We caught many fish and Regan even had one break him off!
