largemouth_channelcatMitchell Deba and Jordan Fraser had some fun catching bass and channel catfish fishing Martindale Pond in St. Catharines, ON. Anglers looking to find some productive shore fishing spots in the Niagara Region should not overlook Martindale Pond.  The pond was created after the first Welland Canal was replaced by more modern shipping canals (over the years there have been 6-Welland Canals constructed to accommodate shipping to the rest of the Great Lakes).

Some of the key shore fishing spots include:

  • Green Ribbon Trail (old Martindale Rd.)
  • Martindale Rd.
  • Henley Island Drive
  • Michael Rennie Park

The most common fish species to be caught there include:

  • panfish (rock bass, perch, sunfish, crappie, etc.)
  • coarse fish like suckers, carp and sheepshead
  • bullhead and channel catfish
  • large & smallmouth bass
  • pike
