Manistee River, Michigan producing trophy, cold-weather Steelhead.
Posted on December 21st, 2009Winston Seto had a chance to book a guided fishing trip on the Manistee River with his friend Dave. They went out with Hawkins Outfitters on the Manistee River, Michigan.
Winston reports that the Steelhead fishing remained strong even with dropping water temps and really, really cold mornings. Their day’s start temps were in the single digits, it was a true test of a steelhead heart. But as the day went along temps improved and some very nice fish came to hand. Their guide Jon Ray put them on 20-30 fishing spots from their launch which covered approx. 8 miles of downstream river. Even with freezing cold temperatures they ended-up hooking 16-20 trophy steelhead!
