Luhr Jensen cut-bait rigs for salmon,
Posted on August 10th, 2018Mid-summer salmon feed heavily preparing for their fall staging at the mouth of harbors and eventually running up tributaries to spawn. Once they stage, they stop feeding but can still be made to strike by using very erratic action and bright , high-contrast lures.
Right now, the Luhr Jensen cut-bait rigs can produce big-time!! Capt. Aldo Nava has been running them aboard his www.niagarafishingadventures.com charter boat and catching big Kings! They can be trolled on their own off a long, leadcore line, but work especially well fished behind a Luhr Jensen flasher. Speed is critical and varies between 2.5-2.8 mph. The best action is a tight roll. Looks like big Chinooks like “bling”, and bright yellow or chartreuse heads with a silver/black imitation trick seems to be working just fine!
