Locating structure & weeds to catch smallmouth bass.

Posted on August 3rd, 2015

We just finished targeting smallmouth bass using top-water lures in large bays where we knew that if we located structure breaks and isolated weed-clumps, we would locate actively feeding smallmouth.

Having our unit on the split-screen with the CHIRP DownVision on the left and the Hydrographic chart on the right, the Raymarine HybridTouch fishfinder showed us exactly what the bottom structure looked like as we approached it.

As we started to go onto the structure, we clearly spotted the isolated weeds growing sporadically in the bay.

In no-time we were hooking nice smallmouth using on the Rapala X-Rap Pop!
