Many anglers pack their boats away once fall arrives and weather get’s cooler and unpredictable. For me it’s one of the best times of the year to locate schools of baitfish that migrate out of the shallow and head to slightly deeper water off weedlines and near-shore structure.
You know the adage, “If you locate baitfish, gamefish are nearby!”. This is so true especially in the fall when gamefish know they have to feed heavily before water gets really cold which results in a slower metabolism and less feeding.
The Raymarine Element is ideal to fish from a boat or from a kayak when trying to locate baitfish. A key is to find subtle depth changes with weeds or weedlines where they meet open water. Baitfish will look like a small cloud. As you soon as you spot those make sure to either troll or cast in and around the baitfish schools. If there is a predator fish around you can bet it will strike!
