Largemouth Bass in the cattails.

I love to fish for largemouth bass in the thickest weeds. Those can be lily pads, slop and even cattails growing in 2-4′ of water. The right presentation is key to get a lure in front of them and then when you get a strike, to winch them out.

Pat Pagano does his share of largemouth bass fishing in thick weeds in parts of the Detroit River, Lake St. Clair & especially Rondeau Bay, ON. One of the most effective lures to use there is a paddle-tail, Texas-rigged plastic worm. The paddle tail slips easily through surface vegetation and produces a tantalizing action a holding largemouth can’t resist.
