Lake Superior Sault Ste Marie, Ontario – Finally there is enough ice to venture out on the various bays just north of the Soo on Lake Superior!Posted on January 27th, 2012
During this time of year schools of Whitefish invade the shallows looking for food. Our latest outing proved to be successful with my brother and I landing 7 whitefish in the 1 to 4 pound range. Portable ice shacks were utilized in order to look down the hole in about 6ft of water and actually watch the fish strike in the crystal clear waters of Superior. Very small Tear Drops and small hair jigs tipped with a maggot or wax worm on 4lb test line were used to ice the fish. Please exercise caution when venturing out on new ice and bring the necessary safety equipment.
