Lake Simcoe producing Trophy Panfish.
Posted on June 19th, 2009Gabor Horvat reports: We took advantage of the nice weather and headed-out to Lake Simcoes, Cook’s Bay to try our luck at catching some nice pike. To our surprise, we tried to locate weedlines, but they were not developed yet. We tried casting a variety of lures around sparse weeds, but with not success. We decided to change our strategy and tied on small crankbaits and head to the shallow-water structure to try and catch some panfish. Fishing 5-7′ of water we started catching nice jumbo perch and noticed some commotion in the shallower water. We headed into 2-4′ of water and started catching good-size rock bass and bluegill. We quickly forgot about the pike and had a lot of fun catching the panfish!
