Lake Simcoe & Lake Couchiching Perch Update
The 28thAnnual Orillia Perch Festival started last weekend and fishing & catching is well underway and hundreds of people are expected to fish this weekend while enjoying above-seasonal temperatures. Over 60-perch were tagged, and if caught and returned to the headquarters, each fish is worth $500. If you would like to get more information, or you would like to participate, you can contact www.orillia.com/perchfestival/ .
Lake Simcoe & Lake Couchiching waters have been clear and cold making for challenging fishing. While many anglers are reporting fair catches of 8-9†jumbo perch on both live minnows and small 2-3†plastic grubs, the larger fish are still scattered. Warmer temperatures this weekend will definitely help to warm the shallower water, which in-turn should result in better jumbo perch fishing.
Jackson’s Point & and the waters off the mouth of the Black River, Lake Simcoe is starting to produce good numbers of jumbo perch. As shoreline water temperatures warm-up, make sure to check various depths for bigger fish.
