Lake Ontario spring Browns.

Posted on April 27th, 2017

While many anglers are already using long-line techniques and downriggers to target Lake Ontario spring salmon, some are still working the shallower water for beautiful brown trout.

Michael Jordan Colton sent us these images of mixed sized browns they have been catching between the mouth of the Niagara River and St. Catharines, ON.

Spring Great Lakes trout are still in shallow water with a mix of post-spawn steelhead that are heading back to Lake Ontario after spawning and heavily feeding brown trout that are taking advantage of the smelt run. Best technique is to flat-line troll and cover lot’s of water in the 20-40′ range using minnow imitating lures and spoons.
