Lake Ontario salmon scatter with weather fronts.

Posted on May 17th, 2015

Salmon fishing on Lake Ontario is starting to look like it shaped-out last year. Excellent fishing one day or for a few days in a specific area like out of Port Credit, Bronte, St. Catharines, than the next day…..gone!

Right now there are lot’s of smelt at the mouth of the Niagara River, but not necessarily a lot of salmon. Angler I have been talking to that have been trolling in water as shallow as 50′ and as deep as 120′ and catching fish before the major weather fronts, but after,  are a little baffled.

Best bet is to wait for consistent weather patterns for at least 5-days before heading out. It looks like the Great Lakes salmon fishing changes like the weather!
